Recap - Pilots walk off with win over Outlaws at Colburn ParkThe Newark Pilots (16-16) get themselves back to .500 and snap a three game losing streak as they defeat the Oneonta Outlaws (16-14) 4-3 Thursday night at Colburn Park. After blowing the lead in the ninth inning to the Outlaws, the Pilots were able to bounce back as they walked off to win the game 4-3. The Pilots were able to load the bases as they got their first three batters on base. With one out in the inning, Adam Grace (Erie CC) provided the walk off single into right field that allowed Chris Doyle (UC Davis) to cross the plate. Cullen Babin (Delta State) came out strong for the home team as he helped pitch the Pilots to victory. The right pitched a superb eight and one-third innings and gave up one run on just four hits. Babin didn’t surrender a hit in the game until the top of the sixth inning. The Pilots took the early lead as they scored a run in each of the first two innings of play. In the bottom of the first and on third base, Micah Easterling (UC Davis) scored home after a fielding error was committed by the opposing second baseman. In the bottom of the second inning with a man on second, Brent Langston (Delta State) singled up the middle allowing Ben Bostick (St. John Fisher College) to score the Newark’s second run. Newark added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 3-0 lead over Oneonta. With two outs in the inning, Joe Landi was able to score from second base as the opposing shortstop committed a fielding error on Sean Osterman’s (St. John Fisher College) hit. The Outlaws provided a comeback in the top of the ninth inning as they scored three runs to tie the ball game. Zach Lucas (University of Louisville) provided the biggest hit of the inning for the team as he doubled, allowing Cory Hunt (University of Utah) and Shane Crain (University of Louisville) to all score. Nathaniel Abel (University of Virginia) started on the mound for the Outlaws Thursday night. The lefty effectively pitched six and two-third innings, as he gave up three runs, one earned on eight hits. He struck three and walked two batters. Reliever Matt Schmitt (Illinois State University) took the loss for the team. The righty pitched one and two-thirds innings while giving up the winning run to the pilots on two hits. He struck out and walked two apiece. The Pilots will be home for the third night in a row on Friday, as they will host a doubleheader against the Watertown Wizards. The first game of the doubleheader will be scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m. at Colburn Park. The Oneonta Outlaws will be on the on road for the second consecutive day as they will travel to Mohawk Valley to take on the DiamondDawgs at Veteran’s Park for a game time start of 7:00 p.m. |
