The Amsterdam Mohawks have used a variety of combinations of types of players to achieve their success in collegiate summer baseball over the past decade.  A roster full of young, fresh power pitchers combined with many experienced, as well as raw multi-talented freshman position players has been a trademark of the type of teams that the Mohawks have put together on the field.

On 2013’s roster, the Mohawks have three freshman position players that have been achieving early success on the diamond and making an immdieate impact on their teams.  John Sansone, a freshman infielder at Florida State University, Devin Wenzel, a freshman third baseman at The University of Cincinnati, and Keith Skinner, a freshman catcher at Fairfield University, have been major contributors to their respective teams thus far in the college baseball season.

Sansone, a 5’11 200 pound, second baseman at Florida State, has started every game thus far for the 7-0 Seminoles and is hitting an impressive .300 on the season.  The New Castle, PA native was a 39th round selection in the Major League Draft last season by the Detroit Tigers but choose to attend Florida State instead of signing.

Wenzel is a 6’1 180 pound native of Blandon, PA and has also started every game for the Bearcats.  Devin has hit in the cleanup spot in the batting order for them each game.  On the season, after 6 games he is second on the team in hitting with a .273 average and one homerun.

Skinner, a 6’1 185 pound backstop from Berkeley Heights, NJ, is Fairfield’s starting catcher.  He currently is hitting at a .375 clip to start the season.

The Mohawks will continually update their roster as the spring goes on.

Opening Day for the 2013 season is Wednesday June 5.  Their home opener is Thursday June 6 and the annual Opening Weekend Fireworks display is scheduled for Saturday June 8.
