The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs returned home on Saturday night to Veteran’s Memorial Park for their Perfect Game Collegiate League (PGCBL) matchup against the defending PGCBL champion Amsterdam Mohawks and fell in 10 innings 3-2.

Logan Carman (Southern Maine) took the hill for the DiamondDawgs sporting a zero earned run average entering the game in 12.2 innings pitched thus far while Logan Fullmer (Maine) was on the mound for Amsterdam.

The DiamondDawgs scored first in the bottom of the first inning only to have the Mohawks respond with a run of their own in the second inning.  The game remained scoreless until the late innings when Mark Brennan (Marist) dropped a ball in the gap between the Dawgs second baseman and center and right fielders to take a 2-1 lead.  The Dawgs were able to tie it back up in the eighth inning and the game eventually headed to extra innings.  The Amsterdam Mohawks took advantage in the 10th inning as Patrick Michon (Texas A&M) was on the mound and Ed Charlton (NJIT) would single and John Sansone (Florida State) would lay down a sac bunt and then a walk to Jordan Ebert (Auburn) opened the door for John Nogowski’s (Florida State) single and go ahead and eventual game winning run.

For the DiamondDawgs, Jordan Friend (Alabama A&M) was 1 for 5 with an RBI; Daulton Harrington (ULM) 2 for 5, Willie Shaw (William & Mary) had a triple while Craig Lepre (UAlbany) and Sam Dexter (Southern Maine) both recorded singles.

Amsterdam’s offense was led by John Nogowski (Florida State) who was 4 for 5 with an RBI and Ed Charlton (NJIT) and Brian Ruby (Binghamton) who both went 2 for 4.  Chris Kalica (Schenectady CC) picked up the win for the Mohawks improving to 1-0 while Patrick Michon (Texas A&M) got the loss dropping to 0-2 on the year.  With the win the Mohawks improve to 6-9 while the DiamondDawgs drop to 7-8.

The DiamondDawgs are back at Veterans Memorial Park Tuesday, June 25, 2013 for a 7:05pm contest against the Adirondack Trail Blazers.
