Pilots stay hot behind Robbins strong performance in a 9-2 win over the Dutchmen

It was a beautiful day for baseball at Colburn Park in Newark, New York. Top teams in the PGCBL squared off as the Newark Pilots , who lead the East division with a 9-4 record welcomed the Albany Dutchman who entered the game with an 8-4 record which has them at 2nd place in the West. The Pilots sent their ace and reigning Co-Pitcher of the Week in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, Robert Robbins (Stevens) to the mound.
Newark's offense has come alive in recent games and it didn't slow down Friday night. In the home half of the second, with the Pilots already up 1-0, Austin Clock (Cortland) singled to lead off the inning. That was followed up by a double down the left field line by Zach Wall (Young Harris) which brought up Jack Gerstenmaier (Virginia) with runners on 2nd and 3rd. Gerstenmaier lined a double into the left center gap and would later come around to score on an RBI groundout by Conrad Ziemendorf (Cortland) and the lead was 4-0.
Things got out of hand for Albany in the sixth. With the Pilots leading 4-0 the wheels came off after Austin Clock grounded out to short to start the inning. The next three batters reached base and with the bases full of Pilots the Dutchman struggled with control. Two bases loaded walks and two bases loaded hit batters allowed Newark to send eleven batters to the plate in the frame and tacked on four more runs.
Eight of the Pilots starters reached base safely in the game.
That was more than enough support for Robbins as he cruised through seven scoreless innings of baseball. Robbins was the master of the double plays as he got four of them in all, three of which ended innings as he walked four, gave up four hits and struck out two as he improved his record to 3-0 on the season The Pilots have now won four in a row as they cruise to a 9-2 victory. Pilots will head to Mohawk Valley as they take on the Diamond Dogs Saturday night, first pitch slated for 7:05pm.
