Last night’s games:

Amsterdam 6 Adirondack 4 Game One

The Amsterdam Mohawks tied their own record for wins in a season (35) with a 6-4 win over the Adirondack Trail Blazers in game one of a scheduled doubleheader. The Mohawks also won 35 games in 2012 when they went 35-12 and won the first of their back-to-back PGCBL championships. Adirondack is now 17-27 on the season.

Adirondack got out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. After an Alex Tuccio single and an RJ Devish walk, Brad Jones hit a 2-RBI double to center field to score the two runners. Amsterdam responded with three runs of its own in the bottom of the inning on a Josh Gardiner 2-RBI single up the middle, scoring Jonathan Pryor and Brendan Tracy, and a John Razzino RBI infield single. An Alex Tuccio RBI fielder’s choice in the top of the third tied the game at three.

Amsterdam scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead for good. Tommy Kain hit an RBI double down the right field line that scored John Razzino for the first run of the inning. Brendan Tracy scored Kain with an RBI single to center field. Jonathan Pryor hit a sacrifice fly to score the final run of the inning. A Brad Jones solo home run to left field in the top of the seventh accounted for the final Adirondack run.

Zack Brown struck out nine batters in six innings while allowing three runs (all earned) to earn his third win of the season. John McCarren notched his second save of the season despite allowing the Jones home run. Brian Sondergard allowed the six runs (all earned) in four plus innings in taking the loss for Adirondack.

Adirondack at Amsterdam Game Two

Game two of the doubleheader scheduled between the Amsterdam Mohawks and Adirondack Trail Blazers was called in the middle of the second inning with the score tied at two. It will be not be rescheduled because the teams do not face each other again in the 2014 PGCBL regular season.           

Utica at Glens Falls DH

The canceled July 27 games between Utica and Glens Falls will be not be rescheduled because the teams do not face each other again in the 2014 PGCBL regular season.           

Newark at Watertown

The canceled July 27 game between Newark and Watertown will be not be rescheduled because the teams do not face each other again in the 2014 PGCBL regular season.           

Mohawk Valley at Albany

The canceled July 27 game between Mohawk Valley and Albany will be not be rescheduled because the teams do not face each other again in the 2014 PGCBL regular season.           

Tonight’s games:

Mohawk Valley at Amsterdam 6:35 p.m.

In a battle between the top two teams in the East, the Amsterdam Mohawks will host the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs. Both teams have already secured the first and second seed in the East, but Amsterdam is looking to set a PGCBL record for wins in a season. First pitch at Shuttleworth is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.

Albany at Glens Falls 7:00 p.m.

Despite both teams being rained out a night ago, the Albany Dutchmen clinched a spot in the playoffs. If Glens Falls were to win-out and Albany were to lose-out, the Dutchmen would still have a higher winning percentage, giving them the third spot in the East. First pitch at East Field is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Newark at Utica 7:00 p.m.

The Utica Brewers will look to play spoiler in Newark’s quest to win the West Division as they host the Pilots at Donovan Stadium on Tuesday. Newark is currently tied with Elmira for the top spot in the West. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Adirondack at Elmira 7:05 p.m.

Like the Utica Brewers, the Adirondack Trail Blazers will look to play spoiler on Tuesday, as they travel to Elmira to take on the Pioneers. Elmira is tied with Newark for the top spot in the West. First pitch at Dunn Field is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
