Former Mohawk James Dykstra Wins MiLB AwardAn amazing performance from a PGCBL alumnus has won the award of “Best Individual Performance” for the 2015 Minor League Baseball season.
James Dykstra etched himself into baseball lore this year, tossing a no-hitter on April 15. Not a single ball left the infield against Dykstra and he needed just 71 pitches to complete the gem. The right-hander earned the Fans’ Choice MiLBY for “Best Individual Performance,” announced by MiLB earlier this week.
Dykstra, who pitched for the Amsterdam Mohawks in 2011, allowed only base runner, only a walk to begin the fourth inning. Dykstra promptly picked the runner off before the next pitch.
The former Mohawk garnered an impressive 79 percent of the the vote in the “Best Individual Performance” category as none of the other nine nominees for the award received more than six percent. The MiLBY Awards, similar to the GIBBY Awards in Major League Baseball, were restructured in 2012 and since then, no honoree has gotten a higher share of the vote than Dykstra.
For the season, Dykstra tossed 128.1 innings, finishing with a 3.51 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP for Class A Advanced Winston-Salem. During the 2011 summer with the Amsterdam Mohawks, Dykstra went 2-2 with a 2.61 ERA in six appearances. He allowed just nine earned runs all summer and walked a mere five batters. No player homered off the right-hander.
