Manhattan Sending Three Players to Elmira

Elmira, NY – The 2015 season had plenty of good moments for the Pioneers, including a Collegiate Baseball best 23 straight home victories. The Pioneers followed up their strong play on the field to lead the PGCBL in attendance, averaging over 3,100 fans per game. That tremendous turnout allowed the Pioneers to place second in overall average attendance of all Collegiate Baseball teams in the country.

The Pioneers and Head Coach Matt Burch are pleased to announce the addition of three players to the roster for the 2016 PGCBL season. Left-handed pitcher Stephen Arntsen joins outfielders Brendan Bisset and Marc Galvan in having the opportunity to call Historic Dunn Field home this summer.

Arntsen, who calls Manorville, NY home is heading into his sophomore season with the Jaspers. Last season he worked primarily out of the bullpen for Manhattan, tossing 15.2 innings. He appeared in eight games and struck out 11 batters in the process. Arntsen struck out a season high four batters in 2.2 innings against Wagner. He played his prep ball at Eastport-South Manor, putting together a 4-2 record with a 2.25 earned run average his junior year.

Head Coach Matt Burch said of Arntsen, “Stephen is a crafty left-hander that we are looking forward to coaching this summer. With several years of college baseball behind him, the expectation is that he will contribute to the club immediately, while competing at a high level”.

Bisset hails from New York, NY and will be entering his sophomore year with the Jaspers after putting together an impressive freshman campaign. He batted .309 (30-97) in 31 games, scoring 15 runs and driving in 10 runners. He also reached base safely in 20 of the 23 games that he started. During MAAC tournament play he hit .314. Bisset played his prep ball at storied Don Bosco Prep High School, where he was to the 17U WWBA all-tournament team by Perfect Game.

“Brendon is a player that his coaches think will keep the Manhattan to Elmira pipeline alive and well. At his size, he plays with lots of energy in the outfield and is a gap to gap offensive threat”, stated Head Coach Matt Burch.

Galvan, who calls Manasquan, NJ home will be suiting up for his freshman campaign at Manhattan. The 6’4” righty toed the mound for four years at Manasquan High School. The Warriors put together a 11-9 record during the 2014-15 season and finished the year as the 110th best school in New Jersey.

Head Coach Matt Burch when asked about Marc said, “At 6’4” and 230lbs, his stature and fastball allows him to be an intimidating presence. Adding Galvan to the Pioneers roster, continues our relationship with Manhattan, proving that players love to come and play at Dunn Field”.
