Saugerties Doubles Up Glens Falls 8-4

The Glens Falls Dragons came into Wednesday night's game at East Field hoping to stop a two game losing skid. It wasn't to be however as the Saugerties Stallions galloped out to a 6-0 lead and went on to defeat the Dragons 8-4.

Saugerties didn't waste any time getting on the board against Glens Falls starter P.J. Watson (Rhode Island College). Alex Thrower (University of Buffalo) and Zachary DeThomasis (Hudson Valley CC) walked to lead off the first inning. Thrower scored on an RBI single by Adam Chase (Franklin Pierce). DeThomasis and Chase than scored on a RBI double off of the bat of Vince Lakes (Franklin Pierce) to make it 3-0 Stallions.

The Stallions increased their lead to 4-0 in the third. Thrower reached base by laying down a pretty bunt down the third base line. He came around to score later in the inning when the Dragons committed a throwing error on a steal attempt by DeThomasis who had reached base on a walk.

Saugerties added a run in the fourth when Tyler Noe (UMass-Lowell) led off with a walk and scored on a double to right by Carmine Giordano (Franklin Pierce). The Stallions made it 6-0 in the sixth when they loaded the bases and scored a run when Kaleb Kerbs (Maine) grounded into a double play, but picked up an RBI.

Glens Falls picked up their first run of the game in the bottom of the sixth. Josh Brown (Skidmore) and Brian Granton (Colby CC) picked up back to back base hits. Granton scored when Saugerties pitcher Nick Burns (Johns Hopkins) committed a balk with bringing him in from third. The Dragons added another run in the seventh when Dave Hoffman walked and scored, once again on a balk by Burns.

Saugerties responded with two more runs in the eighth. Noe and Anthony Cruz (Qunnipiac) singled to lead off the inning. Noe scored on a Dragon's throwing error to make it 7-2. The Stallions added one more on a bases loaded walk.

Glens Falls scored twice in the bottom of the ninth, one run on a fielding miscue and another on an RBI single by Robbie Knightes (St. Johns) to cut the lead to 8-4. The Dragons brought the tying run to the plate, but Saugerties reliever Collin Duffley (UMass-Lowell) ended the threat.

Burns picked up the win for Saugerties, going seven innings, yielding five hits and two earned runs. He struck out three and walked just one. Watson suffered the loss for Glens Falls.

Chase, Lakes, Noe and Giordano each had two hits for Saugerties. Michael Pfenninger drove in three runs for the Stallions.

Saugerties moves to 4-1 on the season. Glens Falls drops to 1-5.

The Dragons next play at home Saturday night when they host the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs.
