Lyskawa, Stack Guide Jammers to Big Win in Boonville

BOONVILLE, N.Y. - A late start to Tuesday's game between the Jamestown Jammers and Adirondack Trail Blazers proved to favor the visiting team, as the Jammers won big, 19-5, in Boonville, N.Y.

Early in the contest, Jamestown dominated the Trail Blazers. Leading 1-0 entering the top of the third, the Collin Stack (UMBC) hit a three-run home run, the firs of two on the night, and increased the Jammers' lead to 4-0. Stack hit a second three-run dinger in the eighth and finished three for six on the night.

Jamestown continued their dominance from behind the plate, scoring one run in the fourth and fifth innings, but off only three combined hits in that time frame. One of those hits was an RBI single from Jimmy Standohar (Mercyhurst) in the top of the fifth. In the sixth, four more runs lit the scoreboard with one swing of the bat from Ben Brookover (UTSA) who hit a grand slam to left field, increasing the Jammers' lead to 10-0.

Adirondack struggled to put runners on base as the deficit was quickly increasing. Through the first six innings, three batters walked and 10 struck out to starting pitcher David Lyskawa (Niagara County CC). The Trail Blazers were also hitless through the first six innings.

In the seventh, the Blazers' defense as a whole struggled significantly, as Devin Banks (MVCC) walked four batters and two errors were committed. Four unearned runs came around to score for Jamestown and the lead increased to 14-0.

With Lyskawa having a no-hitter through the first six, he had the chance to continue in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, John Michael Boswell (Furman) hit the ball to short, but it was bobbled and Boswell reached first base safely. After some uncertainty whether or not the play was to be ruled an error or an infield single due to how far Alex O'Donnell (Mercyhurst) had to move to field the hard-hit ball, officials credited Boswell with a hit and Lyskawa's no-hitter was broken up.

After a five-run eighth inning for Jamestown, the Trail Blazers were trailing 19-0 entering the bottom of the eighth. The first three batters for Adirondack walked and Tyler Bruno (Iona) hit an RBI single scoring Justin Smith (Hofstra) and ending the brutal shutout. Bruno came around to score later in the inning off an RBI single from Boswell. Boswell finished two for four and accounted for half of his team's hit total in the game. Bruno and Lou Matarazzo (Iona) had the other two.

In total, Adirondack tallied five runs of their own in the eighth, but it was too little, too late. Jamestown held on easily and emerged victorious 19-5.

Lyskawa picked up his second win and recorded a season-high 11 strikeouts. Kyle Cashman (Pace) lost his fourth game this season and saw only five innings.

The Trail Blazers will have Wednesday off, but will remain at home Thursday to take on the Utica Blue Sox. Adirondack and Jamestown will square off two more times this season, with both games taking place in Jamestown on July 7 and July 30.
