New York, N.Y. -- Sophomore Rollie Lacy (Adirondack 2014) claimed his first BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honor of the 2016 season on Monday, March 14. Lacy led the Creighton baseball squad to its third consecutive weekend sweep as the Bluejays took three from UAB to push Creighton to 9-4 on the season.
Lacy earned a 2-1 victory on Friday holding Alabama-Birmingham to just seven hits with no walks in six innings of work. With an ERA of 1.50, the righty struck out six and allowed just one run. Creighton went on to sweep the series from the Blazers, the third straight series sweep for the Bluejays. Lacy preserved the Bluejays two-run lead through his six-innings of work, allowing just one to get through in the fourth inning.
The BIG EAST Player of the Week was Seton Hall's Mikael-Ali Mogues (1B). Mogues led Seton Hall to a perfect 4-0 week with one hit in every game for the Pirates. Mogues batted .357 with four walks, a double, four runs with a .500 on-base percentage. Mogues went 2-for-3 with a run, and RBI, a walk and a double in a 9-2 victory over NJIT, the Pirates' home-opener. In the Perfect Game Spring Swing in Emerson, Ga., Mogues had a hit and two walks in a 12-inning 4-3 victory over Savannah State. On Saturday against Iowa, scored two runs and registered an RBI and followed up with a two-hit outing on Sunday against Nebraska-Omaha. For the week he reached base 10 times.
Lacy and the Bluejays do not play a midweek before hosting North Dakota to open a three-game series on Friday, March 18 at 6:30 pm.
