Blue Sox Put Out Flames, 12-1UTICA, N.Y. - The Utica Blue Sox bested the Onondaga Flames 12-1 on Wednesday night thanks to a great starting pitching performance. Utica’s starter Louie Varland (Concordia-St. Paul) was lights out, going seven strong innings allowing just one run on five hits. Varland also tallied seven strikeouts throughout the seven innings pitched. Varland got the win for Utica, meanwhile Jake Binder (Ithaca College) got hooked with the loss allowing three runs on four hits through five innings pitched. The Blue Sox outhit the Flames 9-6, and Onondaga’s five errors didn’t help them much either defensively. Zane Harris (Wright State) gave a big spark to the Blue Sox offense tonight going 3-5 with four RBI’s. With the win, Utica improves to 6-19 on the season. Utica heads to Adirondack for a double header on Thursday night.
With the loss, Onondaga falls to 12-13 on the season. Onondaga heads back home to face Elmira on Thursday night. |
