JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – A five-run top of the fourth inning pace the Elmira Pioneers to a 6-4 win over the host Jamestown Jammers on Thursday night. With the win, Elmira improves to 25-21, as the West Division-leading Jammers fall to 31-14.
In the bottom of the second the Jammers took an early 1-0 lead, as Jimmy Standohar (Mercyhurst) tripled and later scored on a Christian Deaton (CSU Bakersfield) ground out.
The Pioneers did most of their scoring in the top of the fourth, when they scored five runs on five hits to go up 5-1. The inning got started as Marshall Gilbert (John A. Logan) and Ayrton Schafer (Samford) led off with back-to-back singles. After a walk loaded the bases, Jonathan Crimmin (Siena) doubled and plated runs. The big inning continued with RBI singles from both Devon Adams (Old Dominion) and Andrew Orzel (Wofford).
Jamestown struggled to get its offense going until the bottom of the eighth, when the Jammers scored three runs on a pair of hits. Nick Bernick (Niagara) and John Conti (Canisius) both doubled to score a run and Ben Brookover (UTSA) earned an RBI with a sac fly that scored Conti to make cut the Pioneers’ led down to one, 5-4.
The Pioneers would add an insurance run in the top of the ninth to make it 6-4 and close it out in the bottom of the inning to secure the win.
