Grand Slam Propels Jammers over Dragons

Glens Falls, NY-The Glens Falls Dragons returned to East Field after a two game road trip which resulted in wins over Oneonta and Newark. Glens Falls began the night just a half game behind Albany in the East Division standings, while their opponent, the Watertown Rapids sit atop the Central Division rankings. Watertown scored all of their runs via the long ball in a 5-1 victory.

Starting pitchers Sal Fusco (UMASS Lowell) for Glens Falls and Jack Buckley (Franklin and Marshall) hooked up in a classic pitcher's duel early on. During the first five innings both pitchers were tossing shutouts. Fusco only yielding one hit and Buckley three.

The Rapids hit the scoreboard first in the top of the sixth when Joshua Bozoian (Union University) rudely welcomed Glens Falls reliever Shane Berringer (Siena) by blasting a solo home run to make it 1-0 Watertown.

Glens Falls got even in the bottom of the seventh. Phoenix Hernandez (Southern New Hampshire)  led off the inning with a double to the right-center field gap, and scored on an RBI single by Matt Hamel (Siena). Hamel's hit appeared to be an easy out until it took a huge hop that handcuffed Watertown first baseman Michael Russell (Stony Brook).

Watertown loaded the bases against Berringer in the eighth, and Bailey Lewis took advantage by blasting a grand slam home run to left-center to put the Rapids in front 5-1.

Lewis was 2 for 5 for the Rapids. Bozoian was 2 for 3.

Buckley finished with nine Ks for Watertown in five innings of work.

Hamel was 3 for 4 with a double for Glens Falls.

Reliever Robbie Frongello (Richmond) came in to toss an inning and a third to earn the win for Watertown, now 9-3. Frongello is now 2-0 on the season.

Berringer suffered the loss for Glens Falls 7-5.
