Gorski, Amsterdam ‘17, Makes Splash as Latest Alumni to Debut in MLB
PITTSBURGH, PA – First baseman Matt Gorski became the latest Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) alumni to make his major league debut on Thursday night, and he did so in style, hitting a three-run home run on the first pitch he saw as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Drafted out of Indiana University with the 57th pick of the 2019 MLB draft, Gorski spent most of the past four years with Triple-A Indianapolis.
In his 2017 season with the Mohawks, Gorski appeared in 23 games and collected 26 hits in 75 at-bats (.347). He smacked two home runs and four doubles, driving in 12 runs and scoring 19 while also going 9-12 on stolen base attempts. Gorski helped the Mohawks to a 36-12 record and the regular season title.
He joins teammates Andrew Saalfrank and Joe La Sorsa as the third member of the 2017 Mohawks to be called up to the major leagues. La Sorsa, a left-handed pitcher with the Tampa Bay Rays and Washington Nationals, and Saalfrank, a southpaw for the Arizona Diamondbacks, both made their MLB debuts in 2023.
