Eleven PGCBL Alums Selected in 2025 MLB Draft
ATLANTA, Ga. — After having two alumni selected in the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft on Sunday evening, the PGCBL saw nine more players picked on Monday as the rest of the draft's 20 rounds took place.
The final total was eleven former PGCBL players who were selected to continue their dream of playing professional baseball.
Six of those players were former members of the Amsterdam Mohawks, beginning with first round pick Marek Houston, who was selected #16 overall by the Minnesota Twins.
Houston watched as three of his teammates from the 2023 Mohawks roster were picked, including pitcher Evan Siary, who was taken in the eighth round (#235) by the Texas Rangers, shortstop Maximus Martin, who went in the 10th round (#298) to the Boston Red Sox, and catcher Jaxson West, selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 16th round (#472).
History was made in the ninth round with the selection of catcher Zach Rogacki. The Colorado Rockies' pick of Rogacki at #257 marked the first time an alum of the Boonville Lumberjacks has been chosen in the MLB draft. Rogacki played for Boonville in 2023 and hit .419 in 14 games played.
Right-handed pitcher Nate Williams became the second former Saugerties Stallion taken in this year's draft, and he will join his former teammate in the Chicago Cubs organization. Williams was selected in the 13th round (#391), following the first round pick of outfielder Ethan Conrad (#17) by the Cubs.
The Utica Blue Sox extended their team's streak to five straight years of having an alumni selected in the MLB Draft. Left handed pitcher Holden DeJong, who played in Utica during the 2023 season, was picked in the 11th round (#334) by the Baltimore Orioles.
The Texas Rangers selected their second PGCBL alum with the 445th pick. Their 15th round selection, shortstop Luke Hanson, spent the 2022 summer with the Auburn Doubledays. It's the second straight year that the Doubledays have had a player selected, following first round pick Griff O'Ferrall in 2024.
Rounding out the six selections for Amsterdam were third baseman Slate Alford '21, selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the ninth round (#259), and right handed pitcher Logan Forsythe '24, taken in the 13th round (#397).
