Final Weekly Awards of 2025 PGCBL Season Announced
NEW HARTFORD, N.Y – Five players were recognized for their accomplishments from July 21st through July 27th as the PGCBL announced its final Pitcher and Player of the Week Awards of the 2025 season.
East Division
Pitcher of the Week: Jake Beck, Mohawk Valley (Trinity (TX))
Player of the Week: Carter McKay, Boonville (Memphis)
Beck earned the victory in a 9-4 win over Oneonta on July 22, giving the Diamond Dawgs six innings and allowing just one earned run while striking out seven batters. He also threw a perfect inning of relief with one strikeout on July 26th at Utica to help him post a 1.29 earned run average through 7.0 innings pitched. He held opponents to a .154 batting average and gave up just four hits over his two outings.
McKay led the league with 15 hits and 20 total bases while batting .682 for the Lumberjacks. Three doubles and a triple helped him slug .909 for the week and he collected six RBIs and scored six runs. McKay ended the week with his strongest outing, picking up four hits, three of them doubles, and driving in four runs on Saturday in Boonville's 14-3 win at Glens Falls.
West Division
Pitcher of the Week: Eric Woodley, Batavia (Niagara County Community College)
Co-Players of the Week: Ian Huang, Niagara Falls (Niagara University), Justin Bremner, Jamestown (Canisius)
With the West Division regular season title on the line, Woodley gave the Muckdogs eight innings of one-run ball, scattering just four hits and earning the victory yesterday against Jamestown. Three days earlier, Woodley pitched two shutout innings against Auburn in which he struck out three batters out of the bullpen. The Muckdogs walked off that game with a run in the bottom of the tenth inning and Woodley earned the victory. He is now 4-0 on the year with a 3.28 earned run average.
Huang had ten hits in 20 at-bats (.500), including four multi-hit games for the Americans, who head into the playoffs as the #3 seed in the West Division. In a July 26 game against Geneva, Huang was on base five times with three hits and two walks, and drove in six runs to help Niagara Falls to a 17-6 victory. He had three hits and four RBI in a 9-7 win over Batavia on July 23 and added two more hits in yesterday's season finale, a 4-2 win over the Niagara Ironbacks.
Bremner, who was also named a Player of the Week in Week 2, drove in 11 runs this week and popped a pair of homers while batting .333 (8-24). He also scored seven runs and was 2-2 on stolen base attempts. Bremner had hits in five straight games to begin the week and in a 14-4 win over Niagara on July 26, smacked a double and a home run on his way to a five-RBI game.
